My book is not available at this time; my order has been cancelled or been placed on backorder. What does this mean and what can I do to get my book?
  • First of all, don’t panic. There is no need to drop your class. We are in regular communication with our academic department. Every one of our professors is sent regular communication from the bookstore that lists any texts that we have yet to receive, are on backorder or are otherwise unavailable for sale in the bookstore at this time. Please communicate with your professor via email or phone as to any academic accommodations that are being made to allow for a temporarily unavailable book. If you wish, we can take your name and contact information and will put the text you require on hold for you once it arrives, at which time we will contact you via the information provided. You may also place a web order for your title via our website and the book will be placed on backorder for you, when it arrives we will hold it for you and notify you via the information provided of the book’s availability.

I've tried to call the bookstore several times and I cannot get through and I cannot leave a message.

  • Our hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 8am until 6:00pm and Friday from 8am until 4:30pm. We are open on selected Saturdays throughout the school year, those Saturday dates will be posted in advance on our website. We ask that when you need to call the store that it is done between our hours of operation. Please understand that during our busiest periods of the year, we may not be able to answer your call. If you require assistance and cannot get through via phone please email us your issue or concern to bookstore@mchenry.edu be sure to include your student id#, name and contact information as well as your course and section information. What is your refund policy?

  • All textbooks must be returned by the last day of the 2nd week of class to receive a full refund, regardless of the reason for the return or when the book was purchased. These dates will be posted on the website and in store. All books purchased after the return deadline are considered final sales. Upcoming return deadlines will be posted online and in store as they approach. A receipt is required for all refunds and exchanges; we cannot process a refund or exchange transaction on any item without a valid MCC Bookstore receipt. We do not have the capability to look up receipts. All text titles purchased for the 2nd eight week start will have until the end of the 10th week to be returned. The bookstore will verify all 8 week titles that are returned before any refund is processed. No refunds will be processed due to a dropped class or withdrawal, unless the book is returned within the regular return window. All shrink-wrapped and packaged items must be returned unopened including but not limited to, access codes, shrink-wrapped books and electronics. Hardware, software and electronics can only be exchanged if they are defective or are in their original unopened package. If you miss the return deadline, you may have an opportunity to gain some money back for your books during our textbook buyback, which is operated by an outside company near the end of each term. The buyback dates will be posted online and in store as they approach. All other apparel and supply items must be returned in saleable condition and must be accompanied by a receipt. All clothing must be unwashed and unworn.

The term is over; can I sell my books back to the store?

  • Yes, you can. The bookstore currently offers up to 50% of the retail price back on many textbook titles. Not all titles are eligible for the buyback and not every title will fall into the 50% range. The textbook buyback runs during the last weeks of every term during our regular business hours. The buyback dates will be posted online and in store as they approach. If you miss the dates, you may still be able to receive money back during future buyback dates. The buyback is a service and not a guarantee of monies to be returned. The availability of funds will be determined by an outside company who utilizes their own metrics based on the age, availability and quality of the book returned.

Can I rent my textbooks?

  • Yes, you can. The MCC Bookstore offers the option to rent textbooks on many titles. The rental price varies and can be as high as 75% off of the full retail price. A valid student ID# and a credit card number on file is required to rent any textbook. (Although, you can pay the rental fee any way you choose.) All rental titles must be returned by the last day of the buyback period to avoid any additional rental fees. Not all titles will be available for rent.
