The MCC Bookstore is here to make your return to school smooth. The following is a collection of important information every student should keep in mind while purchasing books for the upcoming semester.
Book Buying Tips
- Shop early
-The sooner you can buy your books, the better. At times, additional students are enrolled in a class after we have received textbooks. This means there can be more students than books. We reorder as quickly as possible in those cases.
-Best time to shop: Weekdays before 10:00 a.m. or between 3 - 5 p.m.
-Worst times to shop: the first week of classes; between 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. - Consider used textbook
-Used textbooks can save you 25% over the cost of a new textbook.
-But, used books sell out quickly and may not be available for every class. Used textbooks usually have highlighted material in them from the previous owner. - All textbooks are arranged by course as
listed in the schedule (i.e. Accounting, etc)...
-Then in numerical order (e.g. ACC 151, ACC 152, ACC 220, etc.) - All books are listed with a tag stating whether they are required or optional. You should attend class before buying any optional book to see how helpful this supplemental material will be to you.
- Each shelf tag will list how many required and optional books are needed for your class. The tag also states the titles and prices of the books.
- Bring your schedule - your class and section numbers are on it (certain sections of the same class use different books).
Refunds
- You must have your receipt to receive a FULL REFUND.
- All new books must be returned in new condition. Any new book with a name or any marking in it will not be eligible for a full refund. DO NOT MARK in any book until you're certain there is no need to return it.
Final Comments
College textbooks can be very expensive. The MCC Bookstore works very hard to keep textbook prices down and offers many used books. Remember, at the end of the semester you can keep your books...or you can sell them back to the bookstore during finals week.
Your books are valuable not only for their educational value, but also in monetary value. Always safeguard your books to protect them from loss or theft. DO NOT leave your books unattended.
Finally, don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it while you're in our store. Many of our clerks are students just like yourself, and have been through book rush before. They will be happy to assist you.
