FAQ


My book is out of stock. What now?
  • We are in regular communication with your instructors about backorders and textbook changes. Please ask your instructor if they have temporary accommodations until the textbook comes into stock. We can take your name and information and will contact you when the book comes in. If you had placed a web order and the book was backordered, we will finish processing your order when the book comes in.

I've tried to call the bookstore and couldn't get through. 

  • If you call during the business day and your call isn't answered, it could be because our staff are helping other customers. Please call us back or send us an email. We want to help you! Our email is bookstore@mchenry.edu We will respond to your email as soon as we can.

What is your refund policy?

  • A valid MCC Store receipt/packing slip is required for all returns and exchanges.
    Access codes or shrink-wrapped books must be in original condition. Unopened/Unrevealed.
    All textbook returns are subject to title verification and store discretion.
    If you purchase a “regular” start book after the date to return it for a full refund, and it is not on the “mid 1/4 start” list, it is not returnable.
    The Last Day to Return any “Regular” start materials for a full refund is (8/26/22)
    *Per receipt details. Regular start textbooks are final sale after this date as well.
    The Last Day to Return any “Mid-Quarter/Late” materials for a full refund is (10/21/22)
    *Per receipt details. ALL titles are final sale after this date as well.

    Don’t let your paid order become “Abandoned”!
    Any orders not picked up either 30 days after order process finalized – or – after the “Last day to return by” date, whichever is sooner, will be considered abandoned. No Refunds are given to abandoned orders.

    If you miss the full refund deadline you have the option of utilizing our textbook sell back online.
    Note: Not all titles are eligible for the buyback and pricing is not guaranteed.

    MERCHANDISE - ART KITS and/or their supplies ARE NOT REFUNDABLE.
    All merchandise items must be returned unused, unwashed, unworn, unopened and in otherwise saleable condition to receive a refund or exchange. Non-book items, must be returned within 30 days w/ receipt (except electronics which must be returned w/in 2 weeks). No returns or refunds available otherwise.
    Clearance items: Clearance items are FINAL SALE. No exchanges or refunds.

The term is over; can I sell my books back?

  • Yes, you can. We are offering an online sell-back with Nebraska Book Company and in person Buy Back the last week of the semester. Hours may vary. They may offer you UP TO 50% back of your purchase price, but it is not guaranteed. Not all titles are eligible for the sell-back and not every title will fall into the 50% range. The sell-back is a service and not a guarantee of monies to be returned. The availability of funds/returns are determined by a third party company.

Can I rent my textbooks?

  • Yes, the MCC Bookstore offers the option to rent textbooks on many titles. Rental availability and price depend on textbook type and condition. Not all titles will be available for rent. To rent a book, we will need a valid student ID#, Drivers license, and credit card to keep on file - in the event the book is not returned. You can pay the actual rental fee any way you choose. All rental titles must be returned by the last day of the buyback period to avoid any late fees.

How do I find my textbooks online?

  • You can access your textbook list through the MCC Bookstore website under "Buy/Rent Textbooks" tab. You will need your schedule to determine the necessary books for your courses. (Ex: ACC-101-004)

Can I pick up the textbooks I ordered online in the store?

  • Yes, you can. Just select store pick up at check out. Please wait to pick up your books until you receive a second email informing you that your books are ready for pick up. This is separate from your initial confirmation email stating that you placed an order. Orders are NOT charged until the order is filled and processed. There is no need to stand in the register line when you come to pick up your books, just find any staff member and let them know you need to pick up your web order. Please be sure to pick up your web order within the same refund deadline as books purchased in store. Dates listed on website and receipt. Unclaimed orders will be cancelled and returned to shelf per our Refund Policy states.

I cannot select to have my web order shipped?

  • It could be that the item is classified incorrectly in our system, or that there is a restriction for shipping on that particular item. Please contact MCC Bookstore staff if you believe there is an error. Orders converted to store pick up only will not be charged the shipping fee.

I can't find my course or section on your site.

  • There may have been a change in the instructor or the section for your course. Please check with registration to make sure you have the correct course information. Please also remember all course and title information is subject to change without notice.

Why does my book show the cost as zero?

  • Many times we do not have the price of a book until we receive it physically in the bookstore.  We will update the price as soon as we know it, please check back for updates. Some titles are also only available in selected formats; you may have selected a title that is unavailable in the format you have chosen.

My eBook and/or access code does not work.

  • First, inform your professor that you are having trouble; he/she may be able to perform some basic trouble shooting. You may be experiencing some technical issues related to the operating system or code you are using. Please follow all of the registration/installation instructions that came with your access code or eBook. If you are still having trouble utilizing the code; please call the tech support number that came with the code, they are in the best position to help you resolve the problem.

    If you have spoken to your professor, called tech support and still have a problem, please bring the code back to the bookstore with your receipt and we will work with you to find a solution.

Can I use my financial aid for books?

  • Yes, you can use financial aid in store and on our website! Financial aid funds are subject to availability and award type. If you need to check the availability of funds please inquire with the Financial Aid Office at 815-455-8761 or email them at finaid@mchenry.edu.

I never received my books, what do I do?

  • Please email us your name and order number (example: WO-0029XXX)and advise what books are missing or if it is the whole order. bookstore@mchenry.edu;
    All orders marked for shipping are sent via UPS ground once the order is ready/complete.
    So it could be we just haven't received in your book yet to ship.
    Also, if you purchased an ebook, you will not receive an actual book. You should be receiving an email with digital access from a company called RedShelf. If this is the case, please contact them at RedShelf

I have a restriction on my account from the bookstore, what does this mean?

  • A restriction on your account means that you have an outstanding bill or money owed to the MCC Bookstore. Please contact the bookstore at bookstore@mchenry.edu or come into the store for details regarding account restrictions and how to pay any outstanding bills. All accounts with a restriction will be prevented from registering from classes and receiving transcripts. Any remaining unpaid bookstore balances are also subject to be placed into collection. Please be aware that if your financial aid award changes or is reduced, from dropping a course or some other issude; you may still owe the MCC Bookstore for any prior purchases made using Financial Aid funds.

I was charged a different amount than what is on my order confirmation.

  • When you placed your order, there was a page that asked you if you would allow substitutions or if you wanted a certain condition "Only". If you "Prefer Used" and we do not have used, you will get a new copy.
    If you wanted used "only", and we only have new, your order will be cancelled since you didn't allow substitutions. All titles are subject to availability,substitution and prices are subject to change without notice. If you feel that you were charged incorrectly please contact the bookstore at
    bookstore@mchenry.edu; please be sure to include your name and order number so that we may research your order.
